Meet the Gallagher family as they experience life on the edge in a blur of sexual adventures, triumphs, love, scams and petty crime on a Manchester housing estate. And be thankful they're not your neighbours...

Head of the family is dad Frank, a colourful, self-absorbed, unemployed alcoholic who left over the upbringing of the children of the daughter Fiona. The rest of the family consists of lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl and little brother Liam. The siblings are trying their best to cope with lifes hardships without any help from adults. How do you survive when your siblings find your hidden pornographic magazines or get their first sexual experience in front of the eyes of the girlfriends father? And what do you do when your sister steals a baby and the other one fall in love with a man with mysterious secrets?
